Kurtis Liston is currently running for the 44th District Seat of the Ohio State House. You can view much dynamic content at Kurt’s main site. The purpose of this website is to provide you with a quick overview of the major issues on the platform.

Jobs/Economy

  • Government does not create jobs, it impedes them. I want to get them out of the way.
  • Nullify legal tender laws for Ohio, encourage competing currencies.
  • End the practice of "feeing" business as a revenue stream.
  • End Corporate welfare programs like Third Frontier.
  • Lower the tax burden on small business.
  • Remove barriers which inhibit the creation of new business.

Education

  • Introduce competition into education, attach the money to the child, not the institution.
  • Give parents real choice in, public, private, parochial, home, and trade schools.
  • Provide tax credits to individuals/businesses who sponsor underprivileged children buy paying for their education.
  • More local control less interference by the Ohio Board of Education.
(more flexibility to innovate and adapt to the needs of students)
  • Independent audit of the Board of Regents.
  • Introduce competition into higher education as well, money attached to student, not institution.

Transparency and Accountability

  • Yearly Tax statement that shows how and where your money is being used/wasted.
  • Enact REAL term limits
  • Severely cutting / Elimination of
    • The Ohio Department of Development
    • The Ohio Consumer Council
    • The Third Frontier Program
  • Independent review of voting districts to be re-drawn in a fair, population based manner.
  • Across the board 10% pay cut for state government elected officials. Legislators must have pay raises approved by the voters.
  • Audit of Ohio Revised code for redundancies and outdated statutes.

Health Care

  • The health-care system in the United States is very complicated.  This is an issue that effects everyone and understandably evokes strong emotions on all sides. There are no easy answers.
  • As Libertarians we would like rational debate keeping in mind that government involvement typically increases inefficiency and cost. Remember government subsidies, in the form of employer tax credits, is what got us into the position in the first place.

Climate Change

  • There is no doubt that the earth has a dynamic climate, from the ice ages to heat waves.
  • Whether climate change is anthropogenic or not, it cannot be used as an excuse to strip away sovereign rights to self governance and taxation with no proof that such thievery will have any positive result.

Other Issues

  • The campaign is working with local law enforcement to discover the feasibility of a Safety forces fund.
  • Amend Ohio's smoking ban to allow business to let their customers smoke.  All the business owner would have to do is register with the State saying they are going  to allow smoking.  No fee's or licenses will be needed, just a smoking sign on all the doors and posted conspicuously in the establishment.
